The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Anger About Sizing Modifications
Vinted users have been reacting angrily due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has revised its sizing categories for women's and children's garments without notifying every member regarding the update.
Social Media Reaction
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and manually change the size if necessary, which has left users frustrated.
Size Classification Modifications
Before the change, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Stories
Frankie Bridger, who creates plus-size fashion videos, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Another user, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she stated.
Necessary Adjustments
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"This situation is especially annoying, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she stated.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: previously, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options after backlash from users.
